Gary Phelan Talks Age Diversity and “Flip the Script” Campaign on Melissa in the Morning
06/05/2025Gary Phelan, partner at Hurwitz Sagarin Slossberg & Knuff and adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University School of Law, was recently featured on Melissa in the Morning to discuss the growing importance of age diversity in the workforce. The conversation comes as a national coalition of workforce leaders launches the “Flip the Script” campaign, aimed at challenging outdated stereotypes about older workers and promoting intergenerational collaboration.
During the interview, Phelan highlighted the increasing presence of workers aged 65 and older, a trend backed by data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. He explained that multigenerational teams are not only more reflective of the modern workforce but also lead to more innovative, inclusive, and resilient organizations.
“Too often, we try to separate generations at work,” said Phelan. “But there’s real strength in bringing age groups together. When we break down stereotypes and focus on what people of different ages have in common, everyone benefits.”
The “Flip the Script” campaign encourages employers to rethink hiring and retention practices to better support and leverage the skills of older employees. As a longtime advocate for employment equity and co-author of Disability Discrimination in the Workplace, Phelan continues to be a leading voice in advancing inclusive workforce strategies.
