NBC News Interviews HSSK Partner David A. Slossberg About the Stone Academy Case

08/02/2023
NBC Connecticut spoke with Partner David Slossberg about the status of a class-action lawsuit filed by HSSK against the now-defunct nursing school Stone Academy. Once certified, the class is expected to include more than 900 students who are left with uncertain futures after the abrupt closure of the academy’s three Connecticut campuses in February. He maintains the closure was an “abject failure” by the school and not only took the students by surprise but also caused them undue hardship.

Recently, the Office of Higher Education held a meeting to update the former students on the outcome of an audit of the school. The review highlighted, among other things, the number of academy professors who did not have the proper teaching credentials, the substantial number of credits that were voided for each student because of inadequate instruction, and the limited options available for completing their LPN degrees.
