Celebrating “CUTPA at 50”: Partner David Slossberg to Present on the Topic at the CBA Legal Conference

05/10/2023
HSSK Partner David Slossberg will be a featured presenter of the “CUTPA at 50” session offered at the Connecticut Bar Association Legal Conference on June 5, 2023, at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Joining David is Robert Langer of Wiggins and Dana and Michael Wertheimer, Connecticut Office of the Attorney General. David and Bob are co-authors of the CUTPA, Business Torts and Anti-Trust Treatise and are considered thought leaders.

The session, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., will discuss Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act’s (CUTPA) remarkable development over the past half-century, including its importance in reshaping the fundamental nature of the relationship between businesses and consumers.

CUTPA was intentionally drafted to be open-ended, making it ripe to evolve with the times and the subject of lively, meaningful discussion.
The panel will:
  • Discuss why there are so many unanswered questions in interpreting CUTPA.
  • Highlight issues related to CUTPA that should be considered resolved, like the Cigarette Rule.
  • Address issues that are ripe for further development in the courts.
  • Explain when claims do not qualify for CUTPA.
This promises to be an exciting session as David, Bob and Michael recap the evolution of this statute that is important for businesses and consumers alike.

More information and registration are available on the Connecticut Bar Association website.
