Law360 Reports on HSSK Client’s Privilege Assertion in $150M Crypto Currency Dispute

09/05/2023
Law360 reported on the testimony of HSSK client Jim DeNaut. DeNaut is objecting to law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP questioning him at an upcoming arbitration in California related to a $150 million litigation between Coinmint and Katena Computing Technologies over a failed deal to purchase Bitcoin mining rigs.

DeNaut testified, saying that because Gordon Rees was his attorney during a “sensitive” call on January 6th, they should be disqualified from questioning him during the arbitration. He also argued that the information discussed on that call is protected by the attorney-client privilege and inadmissible.

Documents entered into evidence at the hearing supported DeNaut’s testimony because they showed that the firm confirmed its representation of DeNaut to Katena and the arbitration panel on December 28, 2022.

DeNaut is represented by global law firm Kobre & Kim LLP and HSSK attorneys David Slossberg and Kristen Zaehringer as local counsel.
