HSSK Secures Approval for New Residential Treatment Facility in Naugatuck
07/24/2024In a significant development addressing the growing need for substance misuse treatment facilities in the Naugatuck River Valley and throughout the state, HSSK partner John Knuff has successfully secured approvals to locate a residential treatment facility at 58 Maple Street in Naugatuck, CT. His client, Heritage Downtown LLC, owns the property.
At several hearings before the Naugatuck Zoning Commission, John presented a compelling case under the federal Fair Housing Act and Connecticut law advocating for the approval of a regulation amendment and a special permit application despite intense local opposition. The next phase involves obtaining a Certificate of Need from the Connecticut Department of Health.
The new facility will span 16,000 square feet, offering 23 bedrooms and accommodating up to 46 patients. It will employ approximately 60 staff members, providing round-the-clock care and support. This influx of employees is expected to boost local businesses and contribute to the vitality of the downtown area.
This recent approval marks a crucial step toward offering essential support and resources to individuals struggling with substance misuse in the region.
