HSSK Partner John Knuff Helps Advance Trumbull Development
03/10/2025A proposed development featuring an upscale grocer, urgent care center, and two restaurants is progressing despite opposition. The Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission unanimously approved the 35,350-square-foot project at 1 Trefoil Drive, determining that the proposal would enhance the overall environmental quality of the site.
Attorney John Knuff of Hurwitz Sagarin Slossberg & Knuff LLC represents Trumbull 111 LLC, guiding the project through regulatory hurdles. A nearby commercial property owner raised unfounded concerns about the potential impacts to the wetlands and watercourse.
“This project was designed to be environmentally sensitive and fully protective of resource areas,” Trumbull 111 LLC stated Thursday. “Each step of the permitting process has improved our plans.” The project now moves forward to a Planning and Zoning Commission review later this month. The project is designed to enhance this area of Trumbull and provide a long-desired grocery alternative. The proposed building’s architecture will be a contemporary interpretation of classical architectural elements such as peaked roofs, brick and clapboard siding, and decorative awnings and trellises.
Economic and Community Development Director Rina Bakalar supports the project, citing economic benefits. “We are excited for the project to proceed,” she said, warning that appeals could delay jobs and tax revenue.
