HSSK Partner Kristen Zaehringer argued before the Connecticut Supreme Court on behalf of a group of doctors (NEMS, PLLC and Northeast Emergency Medicine Specialists, LLC)  in a case about whether Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of Connecticut, Inc. is improperly shifting a portion of its share of payment obligations for out-of-network emergency  costs to patients and doctors.

​HSSK attorneys Kristen Zaehringer and Timonthy Cowan will participate in Quinnipiac University School of Law's “Gateway to Practice,” an innovative program to help first-year law students develop the practical skills needed to practice law.

HSSK has filed its second federal class action lawsuit on behalf of nine former students representing a class of approximately 1,000 aggrieved former students of the now-defunct Stone Academy nursing school. 

In an article published by Law360, eight former Stone Academy nursing students have requested a Connecticut judge freeze $20 million of the school’s assets in anticipation of possible damages related to the outcome of a pending lawsuit.  

NBC Connecticut, WTNH News-8, and WFSB Eyewitness News reported on a virtual hearing in which Stone Academy’s former president and co-owner Joseph Bierbaum testified for the first time about the nursing school’s abrupt closing back in February. The hearing concluded on October 19, 2023.
