David Slossberg to receive 2010 awards for distinguished service

MILFORD, CT., Jan. 26, 2011 – Atty. David Slossberg has been named Director of the Year and Chairman Emeritus by the Milford Chamber of Commerce.

Slossberg, a partner at the Milford-based law firm Hurwitz, Sagarin, Slossberg & Knuff, served the Chamber of Commerce as its chairman in 2010. He will receive the two Awards of Distinction during a gala presentation today.

“Each year, we honor the immediate past president as a way of highlighting his or her outstanding contributions to the Milford Chamber. David joins an elite and much-appreciated group of hard working individuals who have volunteered to lead the Chamber’s efforts to better the Milford business community,” said Kathleen Alagno, President and CEO of the Milford Chamber of Commerce. “We were privileged to have David lead us so adroitly, and are delighted to honor him with two awards for service.”

Spearheaded by Slossberg, the Milford Chamber last year ran a highly successful recruitment drive, attracting 128 new members during a four-week campaign. “David’s leadership abilities are extraordinary, and have led the Chamber through tough economic times,” Alagno said.

“Despite last year’s sluggish economy, dozens of new businesses and individuals became members of our chamber,” Slossberg said. “This suggests that the community has a clear understanding of its important support and effectiveness. It hosts regular networking events, has active leads groups, and acts to promote business-friendly legislation. Working with the Chamber team over the past year was a pleasure.”

A graduate of Columbia University, Slossberg earned his law degree in 1988 from New York University School of Law. He currently practices in the area of complex business litigation, class actions and employment law, addressing unfair trade practices, commercial contract disputes, land use, real estate, and reinsurance matters in the state and federal courts. He represents clients seeking to recover losses arising from fraud and embezzlement, and represents both lenders and borrowers in bank loan litigation and victims of all manner of discrimination.

Slossberg is chairman of the Connecticut Committee of the Federal Bar Council, treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Foundation, and serves on the boards of the Devon Rotary Foundation and Milford Progress Inc. Slossberg served on the Connecticut Class Action Rules Committee, and co-authored “Class Actions in Connecticut are Alive and Well,” published in a 2007 statewide law journal. Slossberg has served as a special master in the Connecticut Federal Court and as past president of the Devon Rotary Club.

“David demonstrated unique people skills during the membership campaign and throughout the year,” Alagno said. “He made a cohesive organization from very diverse groups, often business competitors. It is largely because of him that our entire membership now works so well together, to the benefit of both the Chamber and the entire community.”

The 56th Annual Meeting & Awards of Distinction ceremony is today at Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange.
